It’s difficult to think of reading as a waste of time, whether fictional or non. When I was in college, my father would always say that I read too many of my own books and needed to put more focus on my schoolbooks.
But it’s all gained knowledge, right? Reading of any kind increases brain function, and if you’re a writer, it’s basically study material for all your future works.
People always get surprised when they see I read things outside my school work. It’s like most people don’t expect this of science students.

Which is a crazy expectation, because readers come in many different forms! What surprises me is just how many people don’t read, but in the times were in, it’s not as shocking as it used to be.
